There is a captivating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not permitted. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is real of most borders.
The original Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling hall, contains 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga river boat is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel complex that contains numerous amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 tables.
